Where to find the Sydney Airport train timetable
The official Airport Link timetables show scheduled services in four separate views: airport to city on weekdays, airport to city on weekends, city to airport on weekdays, and city to airport on weekends. Choose the direction and day type that match your journey, then read the row for International Airport or Domestic Airport Station.
For a specific journey, the Transport for NSW Trip Planner is more useful than a static list. Enter your departure station and destination, select the date and time, and review the available trains. Its departures feature can also show upcoming services and live information.
You can also consult the T8 Airport & South Line timetable for the wider route and its downloadable timetable. Not every T8 service follows the airport route, so confirm that your selected train stops at the airport station you need.
How to check the right departure
- Select International Airport Station for T1 or Domestic Airport Station for T2 and T3.
- Choose your actual travel date. Weekday, weekend and public-holiday arrangements may differ.
- Set the correct direction: airport to city or city to airport.
- Check the destination and stopping pattern, then review live departure information before leaving.

How often do Sydney Airport trains run?
Trains serve both airport stations throughout the day, but there is no single departure interval that applies to every hour or every day. The published weekday airport-to-city timetable shows departures closer together through much of the day and more widely spaced services very early in the morning and late at night. Weekend schedules have their own departure times.
As a practical guide, allow time for a short wait rather than assuming a train will arrive at the same minute past every hour. Check the actual timetable when you are travelling close to the first or last service, making a tight connection, or catching a train on a public holiday.
Example: early weekday departures towards the city
The following is a small extract from Airport Link’s published weekday airport-to-city timetable. It illustrates how trains call at the International Airport station before the Domestic Airport station on these city-bound services; it is not a live departure board.

Published departure times may be changed by timetable updates, trackwork or service disruptions. Use the current timetable and live departures for the date you plan to travel.
Which train station serves each Sydney Airport terminal?
Sydney Airport has two railway stations, not three. Each is beneath the terminals it serves:
|
Terminal |
Train station |
Where to find the entrance |
|
T1 International |
International Airport Station |
From T1 Arrivals, use Exit A and turn right, or use the lift or escalator near Check-in Desk A. |
|
T2 Domestic |
Domestic Airport Station |
Use the lift or escalator near baggage carousel 1. |
|
T3 Domestic |
Domestic Airport Station |
Use the lift or escalator near baggage carousel 1. |
Select the exact station name in your journey planner. Sydney Airport alone may not identify whether you need the international or domestic station, and choosing the wrong one adds an unnecessary terminal transfer.
Travelling from the airport to the city, or from the city to the airport
From the airport towards central Sydney
City-bound T8 trains from International Airport Station pass through Domestic Airport, Mascot and Green Square before reaching Central. If you are starting at T2 or T3, join the same city-bound route at Domestic Airport Station. Check the platform display for the train’s destination and stopping pattern; services may continue through the City Circle.
From the city towards Sydney Airport
From Central, airport-bound T8 services run through Green Square and Mascot, then stop at Domestic Airport before International Airport. Make sure your train is via Airport rather than another T8 route variation. The station announcements and live journey planner will confirm the stops for your service.
The two airport stations are consecutive stops, so the train can also be used between the international and domestic terminals. A station access fee applies on top of the train fare, including for a trip between the two airport stations.
What time are the first and last airport trains?
The exact first and last trains depend on the station, direction and day of travel. Transport for NSW describes the airport line as operating daily, generally between 5 am and midnight, while the more detailed Airport Link timetable lists some weekday airport-to-city departures before 5 am and after midnight. The broad operating-hours summary is therefore not a substitute for checking the particular train you need.
For example, the published weekday city-bound timetable shows a 4:22 am departure from International Airport Station and a corresponding 4:24 am departure from Domestic Airport Station. These are scheduled examples, not a guarantee for a future travel date or for the opposite direction.
If your flight lands late, allow time to disembark, collect luggage and reach the underground station before the last available service. For an early departure, work backwards from the time you need to be at the terminal; the first train into the airport may be later than the first train leaving it.
How to check changes before travelling
Train schedules can change because of planned trackwork, special events or unplanned disruptions. A printed timetable or saved screenshot does not necessarily show those changes. For your journey, review live departures and service alerts in the Transport for NSW Trip Planner, especially on weekends and near the start or end of the service day.
When comparing an Airport Link timetable with a live departure board, follow the updated platform information and announcements at the station. Check both the departure time and the destination to ensure the train is travelling in the intended direction and stopping at your airport station.
