Sydney Airport Terminal 2: Domestic Flights and Facilities
Which airlines use Sydney Airport Terminal 2?
T2 serves domestic flights within Australia. Jetstar and Virgin Australia use T2 for both departures and arrivals. Rex and FlyPelican are changing their departure terminal on November 4, 2026, while Qantas continues to use T3.

Check the operating airline, flight details, and latest airport information before you travel. A flight sold under one airline’s code may be operated by another carrier, and regional services can have different check-in arrangements.
T1 is Sydney Airport’s international terminal. T2 and T3 are the two domestic terminals, so a domestic flight does not automatically mean you should go to T2.
How departures work at T2
The usual departure journey is check-in or bag drop, security screening, then the departure gate. Your airline and whether you are checking a bag determine which steps you need.
- Confirm the terminal and flight number. Check your booking, airline notifications, and airport flight information, particularly if you are flying Rex or FlyPelican around the November 2026 change.
- Complete check-in. Online check-in may save time, but passengers with checked baggage still need to use the appropriate bag-drop facilities. Follow signs or staff instructions for your airline’s counters.
- Pass through domestic security. Allow time for screening, then look at the departure displays to confirm your gate; gate assignments can change.
- Reach the gate before boarding closes. Follow your airline’s check-in and boarding deadlines rather than treating airport arrival guidance as a guaranteed cutoff.
During T2’s redevelopment, Sydney Airport recommends arriving at least one hour before a domestic departure if you have only carry-on baggage, or two hours before departure if you are checking bags. You may need longer during busy periods or if you require assistance. Check-in and security layouts may change as work continues.
Facilities and passenger services inside T2
T2 has services on both sides of security, although individual stores and facilities may vary by location and operating hours.
- Food and shopping: Cafes, dining outlets, and retail stores are available in the terminal. Check what is open before relying on a particular outlet.
- Wi-Fi and essentials: Free airport Wi-Fi, restrooms, drinking-water fountains, ATMs, and a pharmacy are available. The airport’s public Wi-Fi network is unencrypted, so use secure connections for sensitive activity.
- Families and accessibility: Parents’ rooms and baby-changing facilities are available before and after security. Accessible facilities include adult changing facilities; contact your airline ahead of time if you need wheelchair or boarding assistance.
- Lounges: T2 lists a Virgin Australia Lounge and a Rex Lounge. Entry depends on the relevant lounge’s eligibility rules, and access or opening arrangements should be confirmed with the operator.
- Information and quiet space: Airport Ambassadors can help with directions. T2 also has a multi-faith room opposite Gate 55 for prayer or quiet reflection.
For directions to a specific check-in counter, gate, service, or accessible route, use the airport’s T2 check-in, departures, and arrivals maps rather than assuming everything is on the same level.
Arriving at T2: baggage claim and meeting points
After landing at T2, follow signs to the arrivals area and baggage claim. Check the baggage carousel information for your flight before collecting checked luggage. If a bag is missing, delayed, or damaged, contact your airline or its ground-handling representative; the airport’s lost-property service handles items left in the terminal, not airline baggage claims.
Sydney Airport identifies a meeting point on the T2 arrivals level opposite baggage carousel 6. It is useful when passengers and the person meeting them need a specific place to find one another inside the terminal.
If a driver is collecting you, agree on the pickup zone before leaving the building. Private vehicles, rideshare services, taxis, and booked transfers may use different locations; not every service can stop immediately outside the arrivals doors.
Transport and pickup options at T2
T2 shares Sydney Airport’s domestic ground-transport precinct with T3. The most useful choice depends on your destination, luggage, and whether someone is meeting you.
- Train: Follow signs from the arrivals level to Domestic Airport station. Trains connect the domestic terminal with central Sydney and other parts of the rail network. Opal cards and supported contactless bank cards can be used; check current fares and service updates.
- Taxi: Follow the signs to the designated terminal taxi rank. Airport taxi ranks are supervised at busy times.
- Rideshare: Uber pickups for T2 passengers use the Priority Pick-up Zone. Other rideshare operators also use designated pickup areas. Confirm the pickup instructions in your app.
- Private vehicle pickup: Sydney Airport has an Express Pick-up Zone a short walk from the domestic terminals, as well as short-term parking for people who want to meet passengers inside.
- Bus and car rental: Public bus route 420 serves the airport precinct, and rental-car operators have facilities in the domestic arrivals area. Check current schedules and booking arrangements.
For drop-off before a departure, drivers can use the departures-level drop-off area at T2. It is intended for brief passenger drop-offs, not waiting or unattended parking.
How to transfer between T2, T3, and T1
T2 and T3 are close together. Sydney Airport says passengers can walk between the two domestic terminals using the pedestrian route through the P1 car park in about five minutes. Allow extra time for baggage, screening, and finding the correct check-in area.

T1 International is in a separate airport precinct, and you cannot walk between T1 and the domestic terminals. Available transfers include:
- Complimentary Terminal Transfer Bus: The airport lists services roughly every 15 minutes from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., with a ride of about 10 minutes between the international and domestic terminal areas.
- Train: The Airport Link connects International Airport and Domestic Airport stations. The train ride is short, but fares and station access charges may apply.
- Taxi or rideshare: These are alternatives, particularly when a shuttle does not fit your timing or luggage needs.
If you are making a connecting flight, check with the airline whether your bags will transfer automatically or must be collected and checked in again. Build in time for the transfer, any additional check-in, and another security screening where required.
