Where is Sydney Domestic Airport located?
Sydney Domestic Airport is in Mascot, a suburb south of central Sydney, approximately 8 km from the Sydney central business district (CBD). It is part of Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, commonly called Sydney Airport, and uses the airport code SYD.
The name “Sydney Domestic Airport” refers to the airport’s domestic terminal precinct, not a separate airport. T2 and T3 are grouped together, while T1 handles international flights in a different part of the same airport. When using a map or booking a ride, select the domestic terminals rather than simply entering “Sydney Airport.”
Which terminals serve domestic flights at Sydney Airport?
Sydney Airport has two domestic passenger terminals: Terminal 2 (T2) and Terminal 3 (T3). They serve different airline groups, so domestic passengers do not all check in at the same building.
The terminal allocation changes on November 4, 2026, when Rex and FlyPelican move their departures to T2. The following allocation applies from that date:
|
Terminal |
Airlines and flight types |
|
T2 Domestic |
Virgin Australia, Jetstar, Rex and FlyPelican domestic flights |
|
T3 Domestic |
Qantas domestic flights |
For flights departing on or before November 3, 2026, Rex and FlyPelican use T3 for departures but T2 for arrivals. Check the terminal shown on your airline’s current itinerary if traveling around the changeover.
Terminal 1 (T1) is the international terminal. It is not the normal check-in point for a domestic flight simply because all three terminals share the SYD airport code.
How do you know whether to go to T2 or T3?
Start with the operating airline and your flight details, not just the destination. Two flights to the same Australian city may leave from different domestic terminals.
- Check your booking confirmation, boarding pass or airline app for the terminal assigned to your flight.
- Confirm the operating airline if your booking shows a codeshare or partner airline.
- Recheck flight details before leaving for the airport, especially if an airline is changing terminals or your itinerary has been updated.
Once you arrive, follow the T2 or T3 signs to the appropriate departures and check-in area. Sydney Airport also provides separate terminal maps for T2 and T3.
How far apart are Terminals 2 and 3?
T2 and T3 sit next to each other in the domestic precinct. Sydney Airport identifies a pedestrian route between them through the P1 car park, with a walking time of approximately five minutes. You do not need the international-terminal shuttle to move between these two domestic terminals.
Allow more time if you are traveling with heavy luggage, need step-free access or are changing flights. Moving between terminal buildings does not by itself mean that baggage will be transferred or that you can skip your next airline’s check-in and security requirements.

How can you get to Sydney Domestic Airport?
The domestic precinct can be reached by train, bus, taxi, rideshare or private vehicle. Your best arrival point is the terminal specified for your flight.
By train
Take a train to Domestic Airport station, which serves both T2 and T3. Station access is available from the domestic arrivals level. You can use an Opal card or an accepted contactless payment card or device. Check the current timetable and fares before traveling.
By car, taxi or rideshare
For departures, drivers can use the signed passenger drop-off areas at T2 or T3. For arrivals, follow signs to the designated taxi, rideshare or public pick-up area; the pick-up arrangements differ from the quick drop-off lanes. If parking, choose a car park serving the domestic precinct and check which terminal is nearer.
By public bus
Sydney bus services also connect with the airport precinct, including Route 420. Check the current route and stop details before setting out, as a bus stop may not be directly outside the entrance you need.
Can you walk from the domestic terminals to T1 International?
No. T1 is in a separate airport precinct, and Sydney Airport advises that passengers cannot walk between the international and domestic terminals. This is different from the short pedestrian connection between T2 and T3.
If your itinerary connects between a domestic and an international flight, allow time to travel between the terminal precincts. The airport offers a complimentary Terminal Transfer Bus, and an airport train also connects the stations; the train is a paid option. Airline-specific transfer arrangements may apply, so check your connection instructions before traveling.
What facilities are available at T2 and T3?
Both domestic terminals have passenger check-in and security areas, baggage facilities, restrooms, food and drink outlets, free airport Wi-Fi and accessibility services. Retail, lounges and individual services vary by terminal, so look up the facilities for the building you will actually use.
T2 is undergoing a major upgrade scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. Check-in and security layouts may change during the work, and passengers should follow on-site signs and staff directions rather than relying on an older terminal photo or map.
For a straightforward trip, the key is to identify your operating airline, confirm T2 or T3 on your flight details, and arrange transport to that specific terminal. The two domestic buildings are close together, but T1 International requires a separate transfer.
